Current earworm: Blue by Big Bang

This is not your typical hard core hip-hop song.

They make hip-hop so smooth, soothing and serene. CANNOT GET THIS OUT OF MY HEAD.

Review: Sexylook Sexy Doll Mask

More and more Taiwanese mask brands are coming out and I can't wait to get my hands on all of them because their packagings are all so nice!

The latest one that I purchased to try was the Sexylook Sexy Doll Mask. Sexylook is a mask brand that popularises the brainwave of a duo face+neck mask, so of course I was excited for this!

This retails for S$2/piece at Watsons!

Their current spokesperson now is Aisha, a Japanese who made it big in Taiwan (NO THAT IS NOT MAKIYO!).

I bought the Intensive Energizing and Luminous Silk Mask.

It promises to:
  • "reveal a luminous and translucent skin"
  • "enhance anti-aging efficacies"
  • and "brighten your face instantly"
Sounds like a dream? Maybe not to me. READ ON...

Ingredient list for the paranoid ones.

There are only 3 good things about this mask:
  1. The expiry date is stated CLEARLY. Many masks that I used in the past had no such indications, or I had to play a watered-down version of hide-and-seek to look for the expiry dates.
  2. The mask itself fits my face perfectly.
  3. The mask came with the plastic separator - prevents essence from dripping and easily separates the folded mask.
OTHER THAN THAT, BLERGH.

How the mask looks like straight out of the packaging.

It fits nicely on my face...

Did I like it? NO

Will I buy it again? NO

Here are the reasons why this mask irked me so freaking much:
  1. The smell is overpoweringly chemical. For those who have a tendency to get headaches or migraine attacks from strong smells, I will advise you to steer clear of this mask. I had a migraine 10 minutes after I put it on. =.=
  2. It does nothing. Seriously. Usually I could feel my skin feeling smooth and supple. But no, this just felt sticky and gross. The essence doesn't get absorbed AT ALL. I had to use a face towel to get rid of it after 20 freaking minutes of on-off massaging. After I wiped it away, my skin felt like I used cooking oil or something, it was BEYOND OILY. Definitely NOT recommended for those with oily skin.
  3. I had breakouts the next day. SERIOUSLY HUH? SERIOUSLY?! =.=
I was a very unhappy user. Nope, will never buy this ever again and will not recommend it to my friends.

Packaging is very pretty, but it does nothing, and perhaps maybe detrimental for those with oily skin.

NEXT, PLEASE.

OOTD for PI Week 8 (1/3 completed!)

Time passes so fast when you are busy or when you are having fun. I think the previous sentence is so overused that I feel rather ashamed to have typed it out.

It's a bittersweet feeling.

It's great that we are one-third into internship (16 more weeks to go!), but it's kind of overwhelming to leave internship and be thrown into the murky world of Final Year Project. I don't want to leave my routine and FYP can just screw my world updownleftright.

The other good thing about internship is, I'm definitely losing weight. Being busy = not much lunch = YAY LESS CALORIES.

I hope this continues till June!

Of which I must announce, I have booked my Hongkong trip for early July. I hope FOC'12 is not held between 3rd July - 7th July. PLEASE PLEASE NO NO.

Review: Leaders Clinic Clinie Mask - Caviar Repairing Essential Mask

I bought the Leaders Clinic Clinie Caviar Repairing Mask for S$2 at Watsons. The word "caviar" already attracted my attention, then the word "repairing" sealed the deal for me.

Description written on the front of the packaging. No idea why they did that. I get it, you want to look professional and all dermatologists-certified looking, but I really like pretty packaging on masks. So this was a boo-boo for me.

"Repairing ingredients like caviar or chitosan give your skin sufficient elasticity and nutrition and keep your skin that can easily turn rough shinier and healthier. Use of the cellulose mask sheet with silky touch fitting even your fine wrinkles aids intensive care and delivers the efficacy of the high-concentrated essence more mildly."

"Sufficient elasticity and nutrition" sounds amazing. Anything to slow down the process of ageing, PLEASE.

Yes, I'm 23 and I'm worried about ageing. Please don't be too happy with your skin now ar, dear twenty-somethings. Anything wrong you do now will carry forward and things can go horribly wrong once you hit the scary 3-0. ARGH.

I'm now obsessed with anything ageing because I need to keep this boing-boing skin for as long as possible!!!!!! OBSESSED.

I think it's very clever that the company included a disclaimer mentioning how one will not see miracles happening after one application. "It is most effective to use consecutively 2-3 times a week for 4 weeks".

VERY SMART because 1) people's expectations are not overwhelmingly high and so when they don't see instant results, they don't grumble, 2) this motivates people to buy more of this mask!

Ingredient list:

The mask itself has a thick tissue feel. It's a material that I'm not accustomed to. Somewhat like a cross between cotton pad and tissue. One thing for sure though, the material helps to soak up as much of the product as possible and it actually prevents major dripping catastrophe.

The sheet is not very thin, or maybe not as thin as My Beauty Diary ones. It fits my face quite well, but it creased way too much around the hairline. So irritating, but perhaps I have uneven skin. Okay, I shall think of it as the mask design has faulty mechanism.

DID IT WORK?
Well, I didn't expect anything AMAZING to happen because of the disclaimer written on the packaging. However, when I applied the product, I really do feel my skin soaking up all the goodness.

One tip for mask application: apply toner before putting the mask on. Toner helps your skin cells absorb the product better!

After around 40 minutes, I removed the mask and I hated how the product refused to be absorbed to my skin. It's so sticky and gooey and I couldn't take it anymore; I had to use a tissue to wipe the junk away. That was after a good 5 minutes and after I tried to massage the essence into my skin.

Will I buy it again?
Maybe not. I prefer to see instant effects on my skin and I was really put off by that never-disappearing sticky feeling. Even after massaging it in! ARGH! I will stick with My Beauty Diary masks, thank you very much.

Optimistic or just oblivious?

I think I'm fat, but people say I'm crazy because there exist fatter people than me.

But I really want to wear nice clothes and then ACTUALLY look genuinely nice. Stupid boobs getting in the way for some apparels, makes me look so much bulkier than I am.

BAH.

Nothing against myself or anything. But I can afford to lose a few of those flabs.

New bag from GMARKET SG

I have too few work bags! Actually before this one, I only have ONE presentable bag for work.

So no reason to not search for one right?

This was selling for S$4.90 on Gmarket SG. YES FOUR DOLLARS AND NINETY CENTS. Shipping was a little bit less than twice the actual price of the bag (S$8.50!), but it was delivered to my doorstep, and I AM IN LOVE.

I have been carrying this bag around EVERY SINGLE DAY after I got it! :D

Gmarket SG can be a gem sometimes. Get the newsletter emailed to you and read it religiously, you may find deals like this in no time!! :)

Review: Palty Hair Dye

This is available at Watsons for less than S$13 (I can't really remember the exact price)!

My hair was in a bad condition, because of those unsightly black roots!! BAHHH.

I bought Palty Hair Dye in Natural Brown to cover those ugly roots. I used to dye my hair blonde last time using this also. Major effective in bleaching your hair, because the hair dye includes a bleaching agent in the set!

AFTER!

Nicer, more evenly coloured hair! YAYNESS.

I think I better dye my hair periodically to prevent the ugly roots. Look so unkempt with black roots!

LOOK AT MAH AWESOMELY DYED ROOTS :D I sound like I'm describing myself as a vegetable. haha.

Do take note though: for those with long hair, one packet is not enough! You need at least two for even application! :D

DIY Masks

I'm highly intrigued by DIY (Do It Yourself) masks.

Not many people are enticed by the idea of applying everyday grocery items like honey and egg white on their faces, but think about it...is the idea of applying chemicals on your face any more attractive?

I have had enough of store bought facial products, not because they don't work, but because I'm slapping chemicals after chemicals on my skin. Yes, they do work now, but what will happen to my skin in the future?

It's time to go back to the basics.

My mom swears by the cucumber lemon mask to reduce acne scars. My mom, my aunt and my uncle were all poor sufferers of acne when they were in their late teens till their early 20s. They had no money to buy expensive acne-calming or acne-prevention products, and so they relied on a method taught to them by my great-grandaunt. They used a cucumber and lemon juice concoction to alleviate the acne scars and to prevent future blemishes.

My mom has beautiful skin for her age now.

Mine, on the contrary, is on the losing end of the battle. Ever since I came back from Sweden, my skin had massive acne breakouts, which led to the irritating acne scars that I'm left with now.

Facials are of course a good solution to solving my skin woes, but I realised a problematic cycle - I go to facial, my skin is in pain, a few days later my skin feels fabulous, 2 weeks later the same spots come back, and then I'm back to another extraction session.

I call it "an unfortunate facial cycle".

Of course, this has nothing to do with the facials that I have been going to. They all have proven to work and I have no qualms over any of the facials. The problem lies with my skin. It's just like when you have dandruff and suddenly Head & Shoulders doesn't work anymore.

My skin is getting used to the chemicals used and therefore not reacting as well anymore.

And so one of my future blogposts will be on DIY Masks, specifically:
  • Cucumber Lemon Mask
  • Honey, green tea and cider vinegar Sugar Mask
They sound horrid, but success stories that travel through time can prove their effectiveness.

Here are 2 videos that show you the steps! :)

Sending our Wunderman off

One week ago, we had a farewell nom session for Wilson Wang who's leaving for Shanghai for his internship.

A rather grand affair because it was held at Marina Bay Residences. WOOOO~~

The theme was "beach party" but I guess noone really cared about the theme. HAHAHA. Everyone came rather glamly because of the venue.

Scenery photos. ZOMGGG. At times like this I don't hate my G11. I really want the upcoming G1X or an Olympus E-P3 though. HMMM. Decisions must be made.

The sisters and I!

Bye bye Wilson and Lisa!!! Have an awesome internship! :))
