Earn more money, eat more food...

...and then gym more to keep the weight down.

But I think I'm slacking in the exercising department because I can feel myself feeling bloated more frequently. Is it time for another round of Teatox? I know many people do not think much about teatox but I've tried it 3 times and each time it worked well in getting rid of the bloat and excess water. Good to try if you're only looking at cleansing your system and not to lose weight.

There's always a ranting section in my food posts, so here's one:

I have suffered from acne for 6 years now and I cannot wait for my hormones to settle down and stop giving me shitty skin. I know 6 years is a short time for long-time acne sufferers but if you are a long-time acne sufferer, you should be able to understand the self-esteem issues that I go through. For example, yesterday I went to a trade show at Suntec City, and I had the most amazing lip look ever (a slightly dark and vampy berry colour). However, all I could think of is what others will think of my bumpy skin. I wanted to smile and interact with the stall vendors, but talking to them would mean lifting my head up, and that took a lot of struggle. Why, skin, why?! Evidently, my skin is not as bad as before, but still...

Western medication doesn't help at all - I suffered a lot of side effects when I was prescribed those pills. So I was thinking of going for traditional Chinese medication. Anyone has done that before? Please share your experience with me. Thank you!

Ok back to food photos!

Jeremy, Kokky and I bit the bullet and queued at Tendon Ginza Itsuki for the legendary tempura bowls. It took us 50 minutes and the stuffy weather added to the torture. But hey, we had a good time talking about random things and kokky's happiness, and the server gave us all free tea, so yes it was bearable.

Do I recommend Tendon Ginza Itsuki? The tempura bowls were definitely lovely, but the long wait might not be everyone's cup of tea, so I'm on the fence. But if you don't mind the wait, then yes it's a good place to try. They only have 2 main items on the menu - the Special tempura bowl or the Vegetable tempura bowl. Already a great indication of a quality food joint.

Both bowls were delicious and the prices were highly affordable - Special set for S$13.90++ and Vegetable set for S$12.90++.

I had one of the best chawanmushis in my life here!

The Special tendon came with a deep fried onsen egg (very spectacular for eggporn videos), so if you're into the eggporn scene, order this set.

I had the Vegetable tendon and I was pleasantly surprised. I became an eggplant convert after this bowl of goodness. They also included the deep fried lotus (!!) and I LOVED IT. The deep fried leafy vegetables were a bit greasy too.

Kengyang and I tried Kinsa Sushi at HillV2 and wah so nice? It's almost tears-inducing because it's quality Japanese food so near to my house. :')

I had the Wagyu Beef Bowl. !!!!!
You know the popular beef bowl from Fat Cow? This is almost the same quality and it's much more affordable. I confirm will order this again and again and again next time.

Also lol, they had a Chirashi Cupcake. I had no expectations at all - ordered just because the dish looked pretty on the menu - but wow I was blown away! Fresh seafood atop seasoned black rice. Looked good and tasted good - rare right? :D

Finally felt the excess flab, so okay time to eat clean on weekdays, and I'm glad to report that I had salads and fruits for lunch for 4 out of the 5 working days. For a tam chiak person like me, that took serious self control hahaha.

That's pesto and tuna on top of multiple greens. The only sauce that I will excessively eat is pesto :D

Date night - trying out Korean porridge at J-Story!

The porridge was .. okay lor. Nothing too fancy and no wow factor. BUT, I would come back for the samgyetang - so flavourful!

So yes, that's another round of eating. Are you sick of my food posts yet?
I'm not that interesting of a person, so most of the time I can only share good food places. Pang chance a bit lah hor?

Have a good Sunday guys! :)

Eat more, gym more

I have a couple of thoughts that I feel I should just add into this blogpost. Nothing to do with food, but maybe after reading my long-winded paragaphs, the food photos will make you feel better.

So, yesterday I had a wonderful dinner with two of my closest guy friends (10 years plus of nonsense already oh my gosh!) and we talked about many things, but more so about the romantic relationships that we all have currently.

The three of us have really different situations. One couple barely argues, one couple argues a lot but gets over the argument quickly (kengyang and I) and one couple recently argues a lot but there seems to be no resolution to the arguments.

Two of us were trying to help another analyse the toxic arguments that he had with his girlfriend and we came to a conclusion that insecurity and lack of expressiveness were the main culprits. And as a person who has somewhat overcome insecurity, I truly understand why the girlfriend was being difficult.

Personally, I have treated Kengyang very vilely before as well, and my behaviour was completely unacceptable - I would be really mad at him, but I would not tell him why I was mad. I was hoping he could guess his way through. Being insecure also meant that I was extra sensitive to whatever he did or said. I would also manipulate his words. For example, he would say things like, "wah your dress today very nice!", and I should be happy right?? But no, instead I snapped at him and said, "so yesterday my outfit not nice lah??"

Now that I think about it, I was a complete tyrant. Props to kengyang for sticking with me. I noticed more and more of my friends started to keep their distance and in the midst of confusion and hatred, I realised I have to change myself and stop declaring my insecurity to the entire world.

So, that was also when I started to tell Kengyang things that made me unhappy, and I guess that improved our relationship a lot. We still argued about the silliest things, but we also stopped the argument as quickly as it had started.

It took me a couple of years to stop being such a bitch to my boyfriend, but I'm glad he waited, and I'm glad I made the decision to throw away my ego and change myself.

So, I told my friend to give her another chance. Try to make it work again and give her some time to realise her errors. And my friend truly loved his girlfriend and he agreed that he should give it another shot. But of course, he shouldn't let his love blind his rationality. If at the end of the day, things really cannot work out, then it will be best to end the relationship.

It's not easy to have a completely trusting and tension-free relationship. But if both parties decide together to fix the problems, I don't think it's that difficult to achieve. It takes two hands to clap right?

Ok, food photos time. :D

Going Marble Crazy!

From YoungHungryFree

From YoungHungryFree

I missed them once. So I cannot miss them again when backorder opened. I just purchased both without much thought. I hope they fit me, PLEASE PLEASE.

Anyway, I'm currently in Copenhagen and the weather here has been LOVELY. Work has been intense but manageable. Colleagues have been really nice as well. More updates on this when I'm back in Singapore.

Have a great day guys and stay safe (too many depressing news this week)!!

Dating in the West

I have finally done something with my blog layout and template. I wanted to change the background picture and keep everything else, but Blogger is not cooperating at all. So, I changed the entire template.

It looks markedly different from the previous template but I like how much cleaner and brighter it looks now. Hope you guys like it too!

Last weekend, Kengyang and I had our brunch date at Rise & Grind Coffee Co. We are not huge brunch eaters but the cafe is located really near to our houses (Bukit Timah Plaza) so there was no transportation woes to stop us from trying out the new joint.

Overall, it was okay. I'm going to sound terribly obnoxious here but I have tried better brunch food. Better bread at Gaest/Ronin, better guacamole at Guac & Go, better scrambled eggs at Food For Thought, better grilled mushrooms at Toss & Turn, more greens at The Lokal, etc. etc. But they have very Instagram-worthy plates! Kengyang and I enjoyed our food and even though we had better, we were still pleased with the overall experience - near our houses, cosy ambience, and good service!

We then headed to the UNESCO World Heritage Site for a light stroll! It wasn't a good decision because it was scorching hot and I was in a food coma. Apparently quite entertaining for Kengyang because I started talking gibberish and acting like siaodingdong. Heat + food coma = kee siao me.

Anyway, congrats to Kengyang for securing his job! Yay, we are both earning money now. Let's hope we save more than we spend :D

Have a great week ahead guys! 4-day work week! HUAT!

I love The Lokal!

As you can see from the photos in this post, I really love dining at The Lokal. It's so good that I even suggested the restaurant for our company dinner. I was a bit apprehensive about their dinner menu, but NONE of the dishes were subpar. Every single dish (both appetizers and main courses) was delectable. Even my cauliflower appetizer!!

Here's my Cauliflower 3 Ways with Ricotta and Almond. How come cauliflowers can taste so good one ar?!!

Many also opted for the deep fried squid and all only had praises for the starter.

I didn't try the Chicken Liver Parfait because I was too full from my order, but those who tried said it was a good choice because the bread was stellar and a great base for the chicken liver parfait.

No idea what this is... I'm sorry if you came here for useful information about The Lokal because obviously you obtained almost none.

but hey food photos!

I remember this! Yajing and Chen Yan ordered the seafood stew and they were pleased with the abundance of seafood served.

My steak!!!

No need to get all fancy with words because hor it was SOOOOO GOOOOOOOOOD.

That was more impactful than me churning out 20+ flowery words to describe the beef. No need for all that. TOOO GOOOOOOOOOOD.

ORDER!

:D

I also love The Lokal's brunch options. Especially their smoked salmon.

On the three occasions that I've been here for brunch, I have ordered Roasted Pumpkin Salad with additional Smoked Salmon all 3 times.

I now look forward to many many many meals at The Lokal. Can't wait to bring Kengyang here! :)

Can eat, eat, eat and lose weight or not ah?

The answer is confirm can if I exercise like kee siao on days that I eat a lot.

My tummy is way too needy for a diet. It needs food. All kinds of food.

So okay, I shall exercise more. I remember the day before I went for a food trail with Ruiping, Kengyang and Leonard, I did cardio for 40 minutes and ran for an hour. All done just so that I could eat more.

So here are some photos from all the food that I had last week and maybe a one-line review. :D

Din Tai Fung (Chinatown Point)

Pork Chop Fried Rice - best fried rice I've tasted in Singapore, but still inferior to the all-star, my holy-grail Indonesian Nasi Goreng.

Pork Cheek and Gruyere sandwich was hearty and filling, while the scrambled eggs were delightful.

Forty Hands
78 Yong Siak Street, #01-12, Singapore 163078

Truffle Crack & Cheese (Like Mac & Cheese gone wild lah) - glorious first bite but ji ba bom after that because too jelat.

Banana Bacon French Toast - a much better order because the heavily-drenched-in-maple-syrup brioche went perfectly with the crispy streaky bacon and caramelised bananas.

Ye Shang Hai Teochew Porridge (夜上海潮洲粥)
Blk 117 Bukit Merah View #01-217, Singapore 151116

This is where you should go if you want delicious and cheap teochew porridge, and don't mind the queue.

Huge variety of salads with bomb-dot-com slab of salmon.

Army Stew - Towards the end of the meal, it got too salty for Kengyang, but for my Indonesian tastebuds, the saltier the better!!!

Cafe Insadong
279 South Bridge Rd, Singapore 058828

My go-to patbingsoo shop because it's so near my office and hey, the Red Bean & Sweet Potato Patbingsoo super nice lah!

Cedele (Rail Mall)

I'm so glad that this is near my house because I'm truly addicted to the tofu salad.

Gaest
21 McCallum St, Singapore 069047

S$23 for a smoked salmon sandwich and small beetroot salad is a bit too much, but the occasional indulgence is worth it because of the huge portion size and both tasted fresh and flavourful.

Additional sentence - they gave me so many slices of smoked salmon! I counted (because I'm auntie) and 4 huge slices of smoked salmon were contained in one sandwich. Super worth it please.

And now, a random OOTD...

And then a random selfie...

My haircut S$5 only! :D You can call me cheapo/auntie, but sorry hor my haircut nice and i saved more money than you. Save on haircuts so I can eat more often at Gaest. :P

Yay long weekend!

Online Shopping using LAZADA

Online shopping is certainly my vice. I buy online so much that sometimes I lose track of what I'm supposed to expect in the mail. The only redeeming factor is that I always look for a good deal when shopping online. If international shipping is involved and it's way over my budget then I close the window immediately and forget completely about that momentary exhilaration.

And that is precisely why I love online shopping sites that allow buyers to have the best bang for their bucks. It's also incredibly convenient when you have all the things that you need in one website. Amazon.com is one great example of such e-commerce sites. Now we have one similar website which is much closer to home - LAZADA!

I have shopped using LAZADA before and it was truly a great experience for someone like me who always try to look for discounts (i.e. cheapo type lah haha, but hey, I get to buy more things this way okay!).

I remembered I bought 6 clothing items and paid less than S$42 for all of them (shipping already included). Crazy right?!

You get free shipping on LAZADA if your order is over S$40. If it's less than S$40, then you'll have to pay an additional S$3.99, which is still quite affordable. If you purchase international products, then your shipping will always be free, no matter how much the items cost. Yes, you get exposure to international sellers too!

My favourite sections are definitely, and predictably, Health & Beauty and Fashion. I subscribe to their mailing list and I always get frequent emails on the latest offers and discounts. Super "gian" every single time I receive an email from LAZADA. Confirm will go to the website to see see look look a bit. :P

Example of some of the best deals they have!

I also found out recently that Your Eyes Lie is now available on LAZADA. Super good news for me because I've been lusting over their items on ASOS for quite some time now.

Even if you are not into the above 2 departments, you still have so many more departments. If you want to compare the price and functions of the Apple watch against other smart watches, they have some for you! If you want a new canon DSLR, you get a variety of different ones to choose from. Personally, I'm starting to get more and more interested in home appliances. Things like food processors, waffle makers, juicers, etc. are relevant to me now because I'm waiting for my HDB now. Can't imagine what life will be like without a food processor. I don't want to spend most of my time cutting garlic and onion! Becoming so auntie already. Aiyah.

I'm quite certain that when my HDB flat is finally ready, I'll be browsing LAZADA and Taobao a lot because of the great deals. Can't wait!!

Have a great day guys! If you're stressed, go and online shop a bit lah, it's okay. :P
