BLOGMAS Day 5: Singsale Goodies - Brushes, Toner and Footwear!

I'm suddenly on a Singsale craze again. Initially, I only wanted to take a quick look because it was announced that NYX would have a sale on that day, but there was no time frame given, so I accessed the website in the morning, and kept refreshing. So boring right? Okay, I browsed the website and ohmygosh so many things on sale! I even wanted to get a bed sheet set just because it was discounted and pretty. In the end I had three things in my cart that were NOT from NYX (the sale sucked by the way, it was mostly old stuff) and because my pay was in the day before, I just checked out.

I was so excited, then after a few days, I realised why I stopped browsing Singsale a few months back - the shipping/delivery is going to take ages! I ordered on 27 November and as of now only two out of three items have been shipped out. One (the Michael Todd toner) just arrived in their warehouse and it will only be shipped out earliest 7 December. So for everything to reach me, I will estimate maybe end of the year? The last time I shopped on Singsale, my items arrived 1.5 months later.

I guess cannot really blame them because the three things that I purchased were from three different companies from different parts of the world, so getting the items to arrive at their warehouse really depends on when the companies mail the items out. Looking at how I barely can remember things these days, I'd probably forget about all these purchases and be pleasantly surprised when they arrive. "Wah! I got buy this meh??" - this happens way too often.

I got myself a 24-piece brush set from Bella Brush, my 4th bottle of Michael Todd toner and Therapy & Because sandals. There was also some promotion going on, so I had discounts on top of discounts. I love it when you can stack vouchers! :D

I don't need more brushes, but I'm lazy to wash all my brushes, so when these come, I may throw some of my old brushes away. I also googled and reviews were not bad!

No need to explain more about this because I raved about it in one of my older posts. This is my 4th bottle!!

This pair was only S$9! WHAT?!

20 more days to Christmas! YAY!

Weekend skin pamper (Saturday)

During the weekdays, I don't usually pamper my skin very much. I'm always rushing for time in the mornings before work, so it's a quick cleanser-toner-moisturiser routine for weekday mornings. On weekday nights, I'm too tired to do anything fancy, so it's also a quick cleanser-toner-moisturiser routine, with the occasional mask or acne cream.

That's precisely why I tend to go out all out during the weekends. I go crazy on the skincare front and pamper my skin as much as possible. Some of you may think I'm cuckoo to be using so many products, but seriously think about it, there's no way you can undo things when you regret in the future. Better start early! Also, this does not mean I'm using random products on my skin. Nope, nope, nope. I have used the products mentioned for quite a while and they are products that are suitable for my skin type (oily, acne-prone) and they don't break me out at all.

On Saturdays, I like to tackle my acne-prone skin. On Sundays, I tackle my large pores. Here are all the products that I use on Saturdays. Do note that some products are repeat ones, I don't have like 7 different cleansers and 7 different moisturisers for 7 days lah. I want but aiyoh no space no space.

Step 2: Michael Todd True Organics Organic Lemon AHA + DHAE Toner

Michael Todd True Organics Acne/Oily Skin Regimen - In-depth review

I have diligently used the products in the Michael Todd True Organics Acne/Oily Skin Regimen for around 6 months (previous post), and I have come to a conclusion on which ones worked and which ones I can't be bothered with. The products that I love really made a positive impact on my excessively oily and acne-prone skin, while the products on the other extreme are quite useless. I purchased my virgin regimen in November last year and made my second regimen purchase in March this year. To be really honest, I will not be making another regimen purchase. However, I will definitely be repurchasing the products that I really, really love.

The Michael Todd True Organics Acne/Oily Skin Regimen consists of 5 products:
  • Charcoal Detox Cleanser Deep Pore Gel Face Wash
  • Jojoba Charcoal Facial Scrub
  • Kaolin Clay Mask (Maximum Strength) - detoxifying facial mask
  • Organic Lemon Toner AHA + DMAE Anti Wrinkle Toner
  • Antioxidant Carrot Serum Multivitamin Serum

The Charcoal Detox Cleanser Deep Pore Gel Face Wash is okay but it is unexceptional and I don't see myself repurchasing this again. I use this twice daily and at night I use my Olay Professional Pro-X with it to thoroughly remove all traces of makeup and dirt from my face. It smells pleasant and foams up reasonably well. It also does its job well in terms of removing impurities. My problem with this cleanser is how tight my jawline feels after every wash. The formulation of this face wash is slightly too strong for my skin and after every wash, I cannot wait to use a liberal amount of moisturiser on my face. I'm currently trying to finish the second bottle, but if the tight sensation and dryness worsen, then I may have to get a gentler face wash.

My second most favourite product out of the five will be the Jojoba Charcoal Facial Scrub. The gentle jojoba wax beads promote a pleasant exfoliation session, while the activated charcoal draws out the impurities and toxins. I used to love the St. Ives Fresh Skin Apricot Scrub, but ever since my skin became uncontrollable, I have stopped using it because the scrub was too harsh and rough for my skin. This facial scrub is the complete opposite of the St. Ives one in terms of texture - this one is extremely gentle and good enough for those with delicate/sensitive skin! The facial scrub smells very medicinal and herby, which can take some time to get used to, but it's not unpleasant at all. I was contemplating on whether I should get a third tube of this, but I figure I can find a similar product at a cheaper price (this is US$18.50).

The product that I hated the most was the Kaolin Clay Mask (Maximum Strength). I read online that some people could not get used to the extreme tingling sensation when you first applied the product on your skin. Personally, I'm fine with the tingling sensation because it goes away within the first 5 minutes. The thing that irks me the most is how oily and greasy your skin feels after you remove it from your face. I don't know what's the exact ingredient that's causing the greasiness but I don't enjoy it and it affects the way my serum and moisturiser get absorbed to my skin. Even toner does not remove the greasiness! After the usual applications of serum and moisturiser, my skin just feels weighed down, heavy and immensely oily. At first I thought I was using it wrong, so I tried many permutations - remove with clean cloth first then rinse with water, remove serum from skincare regime after this mask, etc. - but nothing worked in eliminating the greasy feeling. I stopped using it in March and I don't know what to do with my second bottle of this. Yikes.

The greatest discovery of all - the Organic Lemon Toner AHA + DMAE Anti Wrinkle Toner. I think this was the product that made the most difference to my skin. I look forward to toning my face everyday because it's really refreshing and it works! This toner is excellent because it aids the skin better for the next step. Any serum or moisturiser will be absorbed quickly by the skin after using this toner! Moreover, it smells wonderful and it really is effective in lightening dark spots and other blotches. I love this toner so much that I have bought 2 more as backups. I can't imagine not having this in my skincare routine now. Toning your face is really an important skincare step.

Last, but certainly not least, we have the Antioxidant Carrot Serum Multivitamin Serum. I'm still on the fence about this. There are days in which I feel like the serum has most definitely worked, but there are also days in which I think this product is utter crap. This serum has a slimy, gel texture that feels strange initially (like .... snail slime) but it gets absorbed into the skin very quickly and there's no oily sensation after application, which is always a plus. I always use this at night before my trusted TBS Tea Tree Night Lotion and they seem to work well together. I don't really see much difference in my skin condition after half a year of application. Smoother skin? Maybe not. Lightening of acne scars? Maybe here and there but not obvious. To me, it's a product that is usable, but I will not stock up on this at all (unlike the amazing toner). It's also the product with the highest possibility of causing placebo effect on users; - it may not be actually working, but wow "antioxidant"! and "multivitamin"!! yes yes, I feel a difference. - Nooooooot reallyyyyy.

Overall, the Michael Todd True Organics Acne/Oily Skin Regimen has been generally helpful to my skin situation. I still remember last October-November when my skin was all out CRAZY. It's definitely better now and I don't get as many painful pimples as before; maybe 1 or 2 a fortnight. The scars are there and the painless spots are still there. However, nothing as nightmarish as before. Out of the 5 products, I will only get the toner and the facial scrub again. The other 3 products are replaceable with other cheaper and perhaps better quality products. I'm looking at changing my facial cleanser to the SKII Facial Treatment Gentle Cleanser. I have used it before and it worked amazingly last time. Wonder if my current skin condition will still love SKII Cleansers. As for the clay mask, I'm very glad to announce that I have jumped to the Innisfree ship. I had a one-time-use sample of the Innisfree Jeju Volcanic Pore Clay Mask and it was one impressive clay mask. It's very much like my old favourite, Skin & Lab Glacial Clay Facial Mask, and works as effectively! Yinghui has very graciously helped to purchase a 200ml tub of the Innisfree Clay Mask and so I can't wait to get it from her and start using it!

Hopefully this has been useful! Anyone else using the Michael Todd True Organics Acne/Oily Skin Regimen? What are your thoughts?

Michael Todd True Organics AGAIN!

These products work so well (except the Kaolin Clay Mask, which didn't do anything much), that I ordered them again.

I was waiting for a promotion on them and YES, with the code "clearskin45, I shaved US$25 off the US$70 price tag. In the end my total came to US$59.95 after the addition of shipping (US$14.95 - increased from US$9.95! I hope that means I will receive my items sooner!).

These Michael Todd True Organics products have kept my acne at bay and they work wonderfully well with my The Body Shop tea tree products. KEEPER ALERT!

My favourite product has got to be the Organic Lemon Toner. Smells refreshing and made a life-changing impact. I actually noticed a difference between the times that I didn't use this and the times that I did.

Thank goodness for Michael Todd True Organics!!

Michael Todd True Organics Acne/Oily Skin Regimen

Me and my never-ending quest in finding the correct skincare product for my acne-prone skin. I don't know about any of you but this journey is a tired and strangely exciting one.

So far, my skin has been better. Being back on doxycycline and a gazillion other pills definitely helped the situation, but I'm thinking of cutting out the zinc pills and doxycycline in another 3 months or so because I don't want to suffer from any side effects in the future. Hence, here I am again, browsing the web for the next big acne-crushing skincare product.

To be frank, I'm quite tired. My TBS tea-tree products have been great and they didn't cause any breakouts, which is superb! Hence, I'm going to continue using TBS tea-tree moisturisers because they are mega awesome and they smell amazing. :)

For all the other steps in my skincare routine, I'm planning to switch it up a little. I'm a bit wary of using SKII products (even though a lot of people have been pushing me to use the miraculous SKII products), and so I think I will SKII when I turn 30? LOL I don't know, I may just buy it for myself when the time comes. But definitely not now.

So, I came across Michael Todd True Organics products! The reviews online have so far been mostly positive and I'm stoked to try it out.

They have an Acne/Oily Skin Regimen specially targeted at users with acne-prone skin (ME ME!) and I just placed my order.

The kit is not cheap. I paid US$65.95 in total (plus international shipping). The kit itself costs US$132, but it's now on sale for US$70, and I got a further 20% off using the code "noacne", so I ended up paying US$56 for the entire kit! Thanks GOOGLE!

The products are all organic and contain no water/alcohol/harsh chemicals. I'm quite curious as how this will turn out because the products do not contain chemicals like benzoyl peroxide, which is the first chemical that comes into my mind when it comes to treating acne! Pumped to try the kit out!

The Acne/Oily Skin Regimen consists of:
  • CHARCOAL DETOX deep-pore gel cleanser penetrates pores to draw out impurities - 210 ml
  • ORGANIC LEMON AHA + DMAE toner - 250 ml
  • KAOLIN CLAY  detoxifying facial mask cooling and detoxifying treatment  - 100 ml (maximum strength)
  • ANTIOXIDANT CARROT multivitamin serum - 30 ml (new and improved formula)
  • JOJOBA CHARCOAL SCRUB gentle exfoliating facial scrub - 100 ml
They also had a Discovery Kit for Acne/Oily Skin where you get to try out travel-sized products first but I was doing the math in my head and this kit was more "bang for the buck".

For those of you with sensitive acne-prone skin, they have another regimen - Acne/Oily Sensitive Skin Regimen - for you! The kit that I bought may be too harsh/drying on sensitive skin!

And yes, they don't really have a moisturiser included in the kit, so I'll be using my TBS day and night moisturisers with this kit! Can't wait! :)

Update on my skin condition: my right side is TOTALLY clear, but my left side has been acting up (should be menses lah) and I woke up to 6 new pimples. LOL. The good thing is they are drying up really fast! I'm okay with pimples, but I really hate painful ones. Yesterday was not a good day for me. I was extremely sick and I had painful pimples on my skin. NOT NICE AT ALL.

I'm excited to try out the Michael Todd True Organics Acne/Oily Skin Regimen! Faster come faster come!!
