OOTD (Hello Kitty for Uniqlo shirt) + BYEBYE MTV! :'(

I have no idea what made me buy this Hello Kitty shirt from Uniqlo. Not regretting though; it has become my favourite tee. Hehe. :D

I paired it with my super fitting Topshop floral bandage skirt so that the whole outfit is at least presentable enough for work. To be honest, I dress in denim shorts + sweaters a lot for work because the dress code is casual. But since it's my last day, I better dress a little bit better!!

Shirt: Uniqlo
Skirt: Topshop
Accessories: H&M, Qoo10, Hong Kong & Talisman
Shoes: Zalora.sg

I'm definitely going to miss MTV! :'( I made good friends, great colleagues and of course I worked in a fantastic workplace.

Pantry is so well-loaded, air-con so full power, and chair so comfy. HAISSSSSSSS. I am roaring to go back to school, but when school really starts proper, I'm quite sure I'll miss work.

I will miss this Dora meimei and her ever-changing hair colour. So noisy, so funny and so touchy. HAHAHAHAHA. But all those traits make her a fantastic friend. I'M GONNA MISS YOU DORAAA! Don't bully Everin ah!

I wish Everin all the best! She's the new Research Intern and haha I feel so bad leaving her all the mountain of work. :S But I'm sure she'll do just as well! (Ya, I just praised myself indirectly there HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH)

Mr clubber, lao wang, xie xie for all your nonsense and for teaching me a new word. SCUMBAGS UNITEEEEEE! :D And hor, stop smoking le please, DON'T LOOK OLDER THAN YOU REALLY ARE!

Also confirm will miss this cutey Miss HR, darlingkoh! Or we affectionately call her #rachellivesinacave because the only social media platform she has is facebook. HHAHAHA. Thanks for answering all my gan cheong HR-related queries!

Also, byebye Anthony, the guy who looks so much younger than his real age! I shall not reveal here but all the best to you and your amazingly awesome partner hehehehehe. :D

Of course, there are still people like June, Lizhen, Lisa, Javior, etc etc etc etc who made my MTV life so much more lively and awesome.

I'm in Research, which instantly propels me to the boring and nerdy side of work. SO A HUGE THANK YOU TO THESE PEOPLE WHO MADE ME LESS BORING AND LESS NERDY! :)

SEE YOU GUYS SOON AND I HOPE TO GO BACK TO MTV SOON!!!!!!!

Review: THEFACESHOP Freshian Big Mascara

These mascaras were entirely unnecessary purchases. Did I tell you guys about my relationship with Qoo10? I make orders almost weekly and I'm certainly not proud of that! Seriously, Qoo10, make me your online ambassador or something! SEND ME SOME FREE STUFF!! #shamelessselfpromotion HEHEHE.

But seriously, there's something about Qoo10 that scares me. I just buy more and more things!! Of course I don't buy expensive products, but affordable products also can add up to a lot of money when added together! Gosh me and my amazingly hopeless self-control.

BACK TO THE TOPIC OF THIS MASCARA REVIEW, I bought this pair of mascaras just for the sole reason that my SNSD bias, Seo Hyun, is promoting the mascaras. HAHAHAHA I love how I make the perfect consumer. :P

THEFACESHOP Freshian Big Mascara goes for S$4.90 each with free shipping (how to not get you tell me!!) and it's available in #1 Curling and #2 Volume. For unknown reasons, I bought both.

Here's the link in case you guys want to show Seo Hyun some support too! http://list.qoo10.sg/gmkt.inc/Goods/Goods.aspx?goodscode=406075021

As above-mentioned, I bought both the #1 Curling mascara and #2 Volume mascara. I had a plan in my mind at that point of time. What if, I brush one coat of curling, and then finish it off with volume? Perfect combo! Yes, I give myself perfectly obtuse excuses to purchase products online. *Shirks shoulders*

Product packaging: I love it! Actually, anything black, glossy and embossed with white cursive letters is a winner for me. Each mascara holds around 7g of product and that's the industry standard I guess. Nothing to complain about here! Ok...perhaps the only frustation I have is I can't really differentiate which mascara serves what purpose. Although it indicates at the bottom of the product as #1 (korean words) and #2 (korean words), I can't decipher Korean characters and I get confused to whether #1 is for curling or volume. #firstworldproblems

I checked THEFACESHOP website and I don't think the company is pushing this product very much. The only description or explanation about the mascara is shown in the below poster.

So only two promises:
  • natural eyelash look
  • curling & volume effects
I like the simplicity in this product promotion. Many times big brands go for the BOOMBOOMPOW measures to promote their otherwise quite mediocre products. With such huge expectations, you can only get more disappointed when the products don't work!

So I like how this THEFACESHOP Freshian Big Mascara gets me on the small expectations side. Was I disappointed? I DO NOT THINK SO! HEEHEE.

First up, THEFACESHOP Freshian Big Mascara in #1 Curling.

Brush design: This brush is relatively fatter and curvier when compared to #2 Volume. It is slightly depressed in the middle and the tip of the mascara is more tapered. This fits with the whole "curling" concept of the mascara because the brush design does help with holding the curl and making it stay that way longer.

Now, let's look at THEFACESHOP Freshian Big Mascara in #2 Volume.

Brush design: This mascara has a straight brush design, with no depression or curvature on any sections at all. This design puzzled me initially because how is this brush going to give me volume with such straightness and stiffness? I tried it out and I will tell you my thoughts on it in a bit...

Consistency: Both products have the same product consistency. Both tend to the more watery side so it's quite difficult to work with when you're in a hurry, especially when you have the tendency to blink too much after application. PANDA EYES NIGHTMARE! A good solution to this is to train your eyes to not blink so much after application. I usually give my eyes a good widening for 10 seconds after application. Works every time for me! :)

Curling (for #1 Curling)? I was rather surprised at how it holds my curls well. I don't really have a habit of curling my lashes so when I don't, I don't pinpoint at whether or not a mascara curls my straight Asian lashes or not. However, when I do curl my lashes, I expect curling mascaras to do their magic! Fortunately, this does its job perfectly! My lashes stayed curled till the end of work and I was really pleasantly surprised! Yay to this mascara!

Volumising (for #2 Volume)? Here comes the tricky part. To put it very simply, when you use #2 after #1, it works and volumises like a dream. However when I used #2 on its own, I saw no significant differences in how my lashes looked. I guess it has something to do with this set of straight lashes. When you use it separately, you can't really notice much difference because your lashes are still straight out and hence you cannot tell the difference. But when you already apply a curling mascara beforehand, and then apply a volumising mascara, you see the difference straight away because your lashese are already curled! I hope that makes sense. :S

Longevity: In air-conditioned environment, both stayed for a good 8 hours or so. When you're out and about in the unforgiving sunny weather, I think you will need to check periodically to see if you have melted mascara or not, because THESE MASCARAS ARE NOT WATERPROOF!

Waterproof? I made my point above. Nope, completely not waterproof. Try crying and you have panda eye galore.

Will I buy it again? Maybe yes to #1 Curling and no to #2 Volume. I have a huge stash of mascaras and most of them are volumising, so I think I need other varieties of mascaras.

Review: Tony Moly Crystal Stick Eye Shadow

I have a love-hate relationship with cream eyeshadows. On one hand, it really makes whatever powder eyeshadow you apply afterwards pop, on another hand, it creases like crazy! I tried M.A.C paintpots before and I was grossly disgusted by how much it creased on my oily lids. I can't blame the product though since I do have extremely oily eyelids.

I saw this Tony Moly Crystal Stick Eye Shadow on qoo10 and yup, I could not resist cheap, Korean cosmetic on qoo10.

It was less than S$6 each! I bought it in 04 Velvet Bronze because when in doubt, get neutrals!

Packaging: As with Tony Moly products, this eyeshadow is clothed in a sleek black exterior. I kind of like the fat-yet-not-so-fat packaging. I know I'm using confusing lingo, but it's the right size for slipping into any make-up bag and yet you still think that you are getting quite a lot of product. I hate those tiny  cream eyeshadows - so not worth the money!

Colour: I don't think this is a "bronze" colour. I'm being strict though. It's more of a metallic taupe? In my mind, bronze should be a richer, darker concoction.

Swatch with camera flash

Swatch under yellow lighting
Pigmentation: I'm quite pleased with how much product applied, even when I slid the product gently. Quite a surprise! Also, this eye shadow is a discoball-in-making. SO SHINY AND BLING BLING. I almost got blinded when I checked my photos after I took my swatches with camera flash.

Longevity: I wouldn't advise anyone to apply this eye shadow on their eyelids solely, whether or not you have oily eyelids. It's not rub-proof or waterproof. The photo above was taken after I did a slight wipe over my swatch. Aiyah, so disappointing.

However, this Tony Moly Crystal Stick Eye Shadow is still redeemable and not all that terrible. I find it a gem to use under powder eye shadows! Of course I applied a powder eye shadow that was of the same colour family. The colour pops out more! I guess this product makes a good base then!

Will I buy it again? It's a relief I bought this in a neutral colour. If I had bought it in blue/purple, I would have tossed it aside already. I wouldn't buy this anymore, but it's quite good as an eyeshadow base, so in conclusion I'm on the fence.

[HG Product] Review: Tony Moly Berry Berry Magic Lip Tint

I'm not a fan of lip products because of how troublesome they are. You apply, you eat/drink, you re-apply - it's a cycle that I really hate to administer. Thankfully, my natural lip colour is quite pinkish red to begin with, so I can make do with lipsticks. However, they get really dry sometimes and so I love looking out for lip balms or lip tints!

I recently purchased this Tony Moly Berry Berry Magic Lip Tint off Qoo10 out of curiosity and also just simply because the price was too hard to beat - S$5.50 including shipping from Korea!

Here's the link in case you're interested in purchasing too: http://list.qoo10.sg/gmkt.inc/Goods/Goods.aspx?goodscode=405158871

This lip tint has officially achieved Holy Grail status in my beauty book.
  • Extremely reasonable price-tag
  • Highly moisturising
  • Pigmented without being too in-your-face
  • Smells like heaven (I bought the grape flavoured one!! I WANNA EAT MY LIPS SERIOUSLY)
  • Not sticky - I hate it when I go out with pretty lips, and then the wind blows and I have hair stuck to my lips. UNGLAM.
  • Cute and compact packaging
NO QUALMS WHATSOEVER. This product is freaking amazing!!

Currently, the seller has the lip tint in 3 flavours: strawberry, green apple and grape. Grape is too good and now I'm tempted to get the other 2. Just like Pokemon, gotta catch'em all!!!

Packaging: Compact and quite easy to put inside any make-up bag. I like how Tony Moly's products are designed to look professional. Makes you feel like you are getting more than you should be. Haha.

Texture: This lip tint has a gel texture that I quite adore. Some lip balms are so horribly sticky that I used them not on my lips, but on my blistered feet (YAY TIP OF THE DAY! That's right! You can use your lip balm on any blistered areas, works like magic!!). This, however, is not incredibly sticky. It moisturises without being greasy.

Colour: The product itself has a purple tint. However, according to the website, all three flavours will come out as the same pinkish colour after application. I actually love how subtle this lip tint is. It does give colour to dead lips but you don't look like you need major attention on your lips. You just look healthy and cheery!

Here's how the colour looks like on a piece of cotton cloth! It looks damn pink, but trust me, it's realy subtle on your lips!

Longevity: Of course you can't expect this to last more than 5 hours right? It's a lip tint, not a lip lacquer. I think this lasts a maximum of 2 hours on your lips, maybe more if you are not drinking at all. I don't find it troublesome to reapply though because of how nice smelling the lip tint is!!

Will I buy it again? DEFINITELY. I hope the seller keeps restocking this product. I need it for every single day of my life!!

Recent OOTDs: vintage skirt, ZARA lace cardigan and ZARA ombre lace shorts

It seems like I have hit a rut. I can't lose any more weight. However, I'm not stopping on the running because it actually makes my legs look nice and well-defined. Very lovely indeed. Whether I'm losing more weight or not, aiyah it will be awesome if I do, but ohwell, I don't really give a damn now anymore because I have already lost quite a substantial amount.

Yay to positive thinking!

First outfit is a typical office-lady outfit (as Anthony calls it haha). I purchased the vintage skirt online for a mere S$4. Always love bargains!

Paired the outfit with my adorable pair of 3D bow flats. 3D because the bows are so in your face. HAHA. I still remember the conversation I had with Fiona in office. I fear Fiona in the past because she looks extremely pretty and intimidating.

Fiona: Are those Melissas? *grin on face*
Me: *obviously flustered with her beauty* No larrrrr, fake one from Hong Kong!
Fiona: LOL (and so did everyone around me)

Next outfit was one that I dreamt of and it was one of those rare times when the reality looked as nice as the dream. :D

I wore a combination of my Monki bright orange cropped top with ZARA ombre lace shorts, and completed it with ZARA lace cardigan. I could be done with just the top and shorts alone, but we were having out 11th month dinner at Wild Honey, so I wanted to look a wee bit more presentable. :)

I wore my rose gold H&M flats too, and they bit. Freak.

ZARA lace cardigan - on sale for RM69.90 (from RM259.90)
Monki orange cropped top - HKD100
ZARA laze shorts - on sale for S$39.90 (from S$89.90)

My outfit so international sehhhh. HAHAHAHAH.

Yay to my beetle necklace from H&M - a steal at HKD30! :)

Ok, off I go to enjoy some slurpy goodness of a Yong Tau Foo now! :)

Review: Heroine Make Volume & Curl Mascara

I am always on the lookout for great Japanese mascaras, and the Heroine Make Volume & Curl Mascara has been on my list for a long time. I didn't buy it sooner because the pricetag simply didn't register in my head. I couldn't bring myself to pay more than 20 bucks for a drugstore mascara.

I finally found it in Sasa during my Hong Kong trip, and it was sold together with a Kiss Me Heroine Beauty Perfect Water Sunscreen for HKD75! That bundle cost less than S$14! Amazing deal, hence I had to get it!

Packaging: a beautiful purplish pink tube with 6g of product. I know the photo below doesn't show its true packaging colour, but it really is a beautiful wand! Kudos to Japanese brands for making their products so pretty and princess-y. It catches your attention, it registers in your brain, and then suddenly you are transported into a scenario whereby you are already paying for the product. Crazy spooky I tell you.

Claims:

  • Long-lasting
  • Waterproof
  • Contains fibres to lengthen your lashes
  • Contains curly polymer to hold your curl!

Brush design: It's an odd one. It shaped like an elongated hourglass. This design works because during application, tiny eyelashes at the inner corner of the eyes can be reached easily. A typical mascara with the straight brush will concentrate the product in the middle of the eyelashes, creating unsightly clumps. Ew max. This skinny-waist design helps to balance out the amount of product applied on all the eyelashes, not just the middle! Also, the curved design really does help with curling your lashes.

HOWEVER, I will not advise anyone to use this on their lower lashes. It's a horrendous mess, and it's precisely because of the brush design. Lower lashes are shorter and finer in general, and so they need a mascara brush that's straight and tiny. Definitely not this one. I had a hard time applying this mascara on my lower lashes and I will NEVER do something so foolish every again.

CAN YOU SEE THOSE MIRACULOUS TINY FIBRES? :D

Lengthening: Those fibres work their asses off! It's crazy lengthening. To be honest, I have long eyelashes to begin with, so I didn't have high hopes for this product, but oohlala~ it does a bloody good job in lengthening the lashes. Bravo fibres!!

Volumising: The volumising factor is rather blah in my opinion. However, I was quite impressed at how this mascara does not clump my lashes at all! I applied three coats and they were still separated and pretty! Usually, two coats will be more than enough and another will be a nightmare full of clumping horror. But, this didn't clump at all. So yay to that!

Curling: I'm highly unconvinced. It's either my lashes are too straight and stubborn or this mascara does nothing in terms of curling. It doesn't make sense though because the brush design should help in curling! My take on this is that the formulation of this product is too runny. If it's a tad thicker, it will be a curling masterpiece!

Longevity: Amazeballs. Japanese mascaras never fail to impress me in terms of longevity. Even under this scorching Singapore sun!

Removal: To sum it up, removal was something that I prefer not to do. Japanese mascaras are a bitch when it comes to removal. They just are so heavy-duty that they wanna cling on to your lashes like crazy! To prevent frustration and lash-pulling during removal, I suggest using a good Japanese oil-based make up remover for products like these. And don't use a cotton pad and wipe sideways, that doesn't help at all. You have to wipe downwards; when you start to see fibres coming off, that's when you know your mascara is removed!

Will I buy it again? As much as I want too, I think I will try other Japanese brands. I'm not saying that this is a bad product. It's actually quite a great product, but you know the relationship between mascaras and me is like one-night-stands - I just need a new one every single time! HEHEHE :D

Review: Kiss Me Heavy Rotation Perfect Eyeliner

Kiss Me Heavy Rotation Perfect Eyeliner was one of my beauty acquisitions from Hong Kong! It costs HKD62, so around S$10+? Not bad for a popular Sasa product!

It's highly recommended by Sasa and Kiss Me claims that the product will last for an unbelievable 24 hours. I mean, come on, who will have eyeliner on for 24 hours. Damn gao wei! But a strong claim is a claim that I must check out!

I will put this product in the one-level-before-holy-grail status. It's really good for the price and I love how it pairs up with my liquid eyeliner.

Packaging: Like all pencil eyeliners, the packaging is thin and compact. No problems there.

Product texture: I like how it's a pencil liner, but it's not the chalky type. The texture is almost gel-lish and very soft! It certainly feels like an Urban Decay 24/7 liner!

It also comes with a sharpener and a smudger. Amazing deal. The smudger works wonders too. I don't know if it's the smudger or the product, but when I tried to smudge the eyeliner on my lids, it somehow turns powdery and like eyeshadow. It doesn't feel heavy or cakey at all!

Swatches with camera flash - normal line (left) & smudged line (right)

Swatches with camera flash - after intense rubbing

Swatches with camera flash - after intense rubbing + running tap water

Pigmentation: The photos do not do this eyeliner justice. The swatches do not look pigmented at all, but trust me, it is highly pigmented. It's one of those rare pencil eyeliners in which you swipe once across and you're done. No need for a second round. Amazing for its price!

Longevity: Does it stay for a full 24 hours? I have no idea. But it certainly did stay for a good 12 hours or so. That's good enough for me.

Application: EASY PEASY NO TROUBLE WOOHOO

Smudging: This is the point that made this perfect eyeliner less perfect. After a good three hours or so, I noticed some black marks on my lower lids. EYELINER TRANSFER is not good. Although it was quite little, but it is still there. Maybe it's our weather? Japanese girls swear by this eyeliner like a magic wand!

Waterproof?: meh. This is not heavy duty waterproof. The best description will be, when you cry, this will not budge, but when you cry and start to rub your eyes, there goes your eyeliner and HALO PANDA EYES!

Will I buy it again?: Definitely. To prevent the smudging, I actually paired this product with my trusted liquid eyeliner and everything went well! I just love how fast this applies. There's no need for a reapplication because the eyeliner stays there almost all day.
