philosophy (skincare) Workshop 2012

Just last Sunday, I had the honour (and luck!) to attend philosophy skincare workshop. Ng Li (support her beauty blogshop: http://www.under-twenty20.com/) gave me the heads up, and we went to the workshop together! It has been long since I saw her so it's a good get-together session too!

philosophy is an American skincare brand that uses scientifially-proven ingredients to work those magic on your skin. The founder, Cristina Carliano, has over 30 years of hands-on experience in the wellness and beauty industry.

philosophy was also the #1 skincare brand sold in Sephora, and the #4 skincare brand in the whole of United States.

I have heard so much about philosophy through youtube - beauty gurus raving about their purity cleanser and "hope in a jar" moisturiser, but sadly they were not available for purchase in Asia. Recently, the company chose Singapore as the first Asian market to venture in, and I think it will be a stellar hit because local women are always looking for good beauty products with less harsh ingredients that work.

Each of us received a goodie bag, with a 7ml tube of "hope in a jar" oil-free moisturiser, a S$20 philosophy voucher, a philosophy badge and a very simple yet poetic philosophy notebook.

The speaker for the day, Ms Robin White, was very eloquent and she introduced the brand and the various products very succinctly and very convincingly. Ng Li and I wanted to buy products right after the workshop, but we decided to halt our thoughts and try out the products first before buying them.

It was a very intimate workshop, with around 10 participants in total. There were "miracle workers" - they call their experts that! - around to help us apply the products while Robin explained how the products worked.

There was a brief quiz session after the workshop, and even though I was determined to answer the questions, Ng Li was one step ahead and she answered one correctly! She received a "purity made simple" 3-in-1 cleanser (make-up remover, cleanser, toner), but she she gave it to me! She had one huge container at home, so she decide to give her prize to me. VERY NICE OF YOU LILYYY, MUACKSS.

One product that I was interested in was the "purity made simple" oil-free cleansing oil to remove my daily make-up and all that junk from my face. It retails for S$39!

These were products that made both Ng Li and I go "WOW". "the microdelivery peel" set works like your normal exfoliator but does SO MUCH MORE. When used together, they can prevent acne, prevent blemishes, prevent discoloration, makes your skintone more even, etc, etc, ETC. We were lucky enough to try the products together, and the difference between my left hand (applied it on my left hand!) and my right hand was TOO DRASTIC. It's either the products worked too well, or I have really rough hands. O.o

The products smelled of ORANGE JUICE too! :D According to one miracle worker, most of philosophy products contain essence oils for that wholesome cleansing experience. The set retails for S$115, if I'm not wrong.

To me, this is my must-buy. It costs S$51 (I think... I can't seem to remember the prices anymore!) but it works like magic. I have been using my 7ml sample for the past 2 days, and I cannot believe how smooth my skin has become. I'm saying this with UTMOST HONESTY.

Usually around 2 weeks of my usual facial session, the same skin problems will start to resurface again. This week marks the third week, and I was seeing some breakouts here and there. And then I started using the "purity made simple" cleanser and "hope in a jar" oil-free gel, and those breakouts dried out really fast, like ZOOMZOOM FAST. I still have some blemishes on my face, but I can feel the redness going away already. THIS IS MIRACULOUS.

I presume my Cetaphil cleanser does pretty much the same thing (except for make-up removing) so I have decided not to get the cleanser. However, this moisturiser is too good to pass! Yay, gonna use my S$20 voucher to good use!

I didn't really listen when Robin was talking about the "turbo booster c powder" and "when hope is not enough" serum. Apparently, you use them both together, and the cloudy mixture will inject vitamin C and peptides into your skin, leaving you with brighter, younger looking skin.

A pity I was ooh-ing and aah-ing over the "microdelivery peel" when she talked about this!

Some product photos (with me trying to be as artistic as possible. ROFL.):

The "hope in a jar" moisturiser comes in 3 different types! Original formula for all skin types, extra-rich formula for dry skin and oil-free formula for oily skin!

They also have amazingly-scented perfumes that are not too strong. I particularly liked the way Robin put it - "it's not so strong as to give you a headache". I really hate perfumes that are too overpowering because I am prone to migraines! These perfumes also give that kind of just-stepped-out-of-the-bath feeling!

They have gift-sets for those lazy ones. They even have gift cards readily-written for those lazier ones.

Their bath range. OMG, theit melon daiquiri body cleanser SMELLS TOO GOOD. I think they retail for S$35? They are multi-purpose and you can use them for your bubble-baths, as a soap or as a shampoo!

They have raspberry sorbet, margarita, and other delicious flavours!!

Here's the beautiful Ms Robin White, who has been using the products for 15 years! She looks AMAZING in real life!

We also had light refreshments in the form of "twelve cupcakes" cupcakes! :D CRAZY GOOD FROSTING.

The workshop tables.

I like how the brand presents itself with a clean and minimalistic outlook. Very apt, especially for a skincare brand. I feel highly suspicious of those brands that use BAMWHAM messy layouts and lots of colours because I feel like they are trying to cover something up!

A "make-up optional skin" - that's what Robin called it. She claimed that after a prolonged period of using philosophy products, your skin will be so supple and blemish-free that make-up will become an option, and not a necessity.
